Diciembre es el mes más esperado y especial por sus
tradicionales festejos. En Puerto Vallarta lo es todavía más por todos los
ingredientes que se han venido conjugando para crear los festejos Guadalupanos
más entusiastas y vistosos de la región.

Por estos días las peregrinaciones a la virgen de Guadalupe en
las principales calles del centro de Puerto Vallarta están a su máximo
esplendor. La devoción a la virgen morena siempre ha ocupado un lugar especial
en el ánimo de los Vallartense.

Anteriormente las peregrinaciones comenzaban el día 4 y
terminaban el 12. Cada gremio u organización tenía un día señalado para su
procesión y llevaban una ofrenda que los distinguía, los acompañaban los
danzantes con sus trajes de chermés de vivos colores y penachos adorados con
espejillos. No podía faltar el diablo y el viejo con sus máscaras de madera y
el látigo para asustar a los chiquillos y el cohetero que, por los actuales
reglamentos municipales, se han ido eliminando. Estas peregrinaciones culminan
el día 12, pero el día 11 se inicia con las mañanitas a las cero horas y
continúan peregrinaciones que no paran hasta que comienza la peregrinación de
los favorecidos que parte a las 10 de la mañana y termina a las dos de la tarde
ininterrumpidamente como se hace cada año
